Welcome to the Tyne and Wear LGBT History Month Hub

The Tyne and Wear LGBT History Month Hub are delighted to welcome the people of the North East to the first LGBT History Month event on the 20th February, 2016 at the Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne .

This day will celebrate the often forgotten histories of those who are LGBT, including a range of different free public talks on topics as varied as loving relationships within the Suffrage Movement, LGBT families and social change, what it is like to be transgender and same sex desire within the British Army in World War Two.

The event is free and is warmly open to all, with eight different talks for you to pick from on a variety of topics relating to all aspects of the LGBT community. The day will be preceded by a Launch on Friday Evening in the city’s legendary Lit and Phil.

To start the day off, a session in tandem with Schools OUT UK will provide free training to primary and secondary teachers in the region, on how to recognise LGBT history within the school curriculum. With many histories forgotten, and never told, it is more important than ever to explore a different side to our shared history.
For queries about the event, please contact the Event Organisers Andrew.dalton@sunderland.ac.uk  or Neil Bellamy at Neil.bellamy@sunderland.ac.uk
